Leave Hacks: How to Maximize Your Days Off

Whether you are looking for quick 3-day weekend trips or planning a 9-day international getaway, strategic leave planning makes all the difference.

    1. The 2027 "Super May" Hack: 3 Days Leave = 9 Days Off

May 2027 features one of the rarest holiday alignment opportunities. Hari Raya Haji falls on Monday (17 May) and Vesak Day falls on Thursday (20 May). By taking just 3 days of leave, you unlock a continuous 9-day holiday block.

    2. The Extended Chinese New Year Break: 4 Days Leave = 9 Days Off

Because Monday, 8 February, is a public holiday in lieu, taking four days of leave immediately following CNY gives you a week and a half off.

    3. The Long Weekends

You get 4 natural 3-day long weekends in 2027 without spending a single annual leave day:

    • New Year’s Day: 1 Jan (Fri) – 3 Jan (Sun)

    • Chinese New Year: 6 Feb (Sat) – 8 Feb (Mon)

    • Good Friday: 26 Mar (Fri) – 28 Mar (Sun)

    • Hari Raya Haji: 15 May (Sat) – 17 May (Mon)

    • National Day: 7 Aug (Sat) – 9 Aug (Mon)

A 9-day holiday can thus be created, using only 4 days instead of the usual 5 days (every day of leave counts!)

For mid-week holidays on Thursdays, taking a single Friday off creates an easy 4-day long weekend:
