With its famous beaches, lush jungles, and amazing cultural experiences, it's little wonder that Thailand is one of the must-see places to visit for anybody travelling around Southeast Asia.
No matter your interest or budget, you're bound to find something that will float your boat here. And we mean that last point quite literally - you don't have to spend all of your days hiking around Thailand as you can take a boat tour on one of the country's rivers if you want to experience the beauty of your surroundings without having to lug your backpack around with you on your travels.
PS: With so much to see on your Thailand trip, you don't want to run out of data when you're looking to document your journey for your family back home and your Insta-followers.
Make sure you have seamless connectivity when you're travelling with one of our data plans. Jetpac is ideal if you only need a short-term data plan but if you want something with higher data value, our Borderless data plan should cover all of your overseas usage needs.
Accommodation Costs
Unless you're planning to camp out among the stars, you're going to need somewhere to lay your head when you're travelling around Thailand.
Thankfully, accommodation is pretty cheap so you don't have to put a massive dent in your bank balance when you're booking a room.
Hostels, which are widespread across the country, cost between 170-450 THB (4.88-12.91 USD) per night, depending on how large the dorms are. Hostels with larger dorms are cheaper, so may be ideal if you're travelling in a group (or if you don't mind sharing with lots of strangers).
If you want a few more home comforts than what a hostel will give you, then you might want to book a stay in a guesthouse. Prices vary depending on where you choose to stay.
If you book a room at a guesthouse in a major city, such as Chiang Mai or Bangkok, you're looking at between 400 and 700 THB (11.47-20.08 USD) a night.
Guesthouses in smaller cities are generally around 400 THB (11.47 USD) and in the countryside, around 300 THB (8.61 USD).
Need room service? Fresh towels in the morning? Fine dining? Then book a stay in one of Thaliand's hotels. Prices start at around 1,350 THB (38.72 USD) and go up from there.
Food
You have to eat, right? Sure you do - you don't want to be travelling around Thailand on an empty stomach! So, make sure you get a taste of Thailand (in the literal sense) by sampling some of the country's food.
Popular dishes throughout the country include:
- kao phad (fried rice),
- pat tai (a fried noodle dish)
- tom yum goong (a hot and sour soup with prawns)
- khao man gai (rice with boiled chicken)
- massaman curry (loaded with spices)
- satay (grilled meat on skewers)
You also have the option of traditional Western foods such as burgers, pizza, and pasta, but if you're in Thailand, you owe it to yourself to sample some of the country's spicy and flavorful cuisine.
Things To Do
Thailand is packed with things to do so make the most of your day by getting out of bed early and adding some of the following to your itinerary.
Visit Bangkok - The Thai capital is a great place to explore, with temples, palaces, high-end shopping plazas, floating markets, and much more besides. The nightlife is fantastic here too with clubs, pubs, rooftop bars, and all kinds of other places where the partying never ends.
Hike around Khao Yai National Park - Located about 2.5 hours from Bangkok is this visually stunning national park that comprises a variety of walking trails ranging from 1.2 to 8 km. When taking in the lush greenery and magnificent waterfalls, you might even come across a few elephants during your trek!
Go scuba diving in the Similan Islands - There are scuba diving spots all over Thailand but with its teeming fish populations and the vast array of other aquatic sealife, many people head to the Similan Islands when they want an up-close-and-personal look at life underwater.
Relax on a tropical island - Thailand is famous for its tropical islands with their sandy white beaches, clear blue waters, and exotic diving opportunities, so are ideal places to visit when you want a break from the hustle and bustle of the country's cities and touristy areas.
Conclusion
Thailand is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with much more to see and do than we have been able to cover here.
