Cost of living pressures and keeping telco affordable

Why we need great mobile deals more than ever.

If COVID has taught us anything, it’s that the only way we get through tough times is by everyone doing their bit. Sticking together (not physically of course).

Across the country, people are doing it tough. There are reports of people giving up their insurance, skipping meals[1], and going without a lot of basics, just to make ends meet, while the cost of living soars.

Food prices are up, petrol prices are up, inflation is up, electricity prices are up, telco prices are up…well some telco prices are up.

We read, as many people did, that one of the country’s biggest Telcos[2] was jacking up princess across the board, with the potential for even higher costs on mobile internet yet to come.[3] And as many people noted, the timing seems pretty tone-deaf. At a time when Aussies are doing it tough, we should be supporting them, not hitting them with yet another price increase for what is an essential service.

We’ve decided to the the untelco thing - a moratorium on pricing. We’re calling it - The BIG Freeze! From today, we have launched an 18 month price freeze on all our plans, if you sign up before August 31^.

As a provider of low cost mobile services, we already provide plans to many of Australia’s most disadvantaged people and we know how critical communication is. It’s access to employment, it’s access to community, to support, to healthcare - it’s a necessity, not a luxury - and big telco’s should know better. Shame on them.

Our Price Freeze is a commitment to the Australian people that we are here for them, we see them, we know they’re doing it tough, and we want to do the right thing - not the easy thing.
